Non Member Provisions
Day MembershipDay membership will no longer be offered from 1 January 2012. However, Equestrian Australia is in the process of developing a new membership framework that will be released during 2012 and will include a category that will support members that limited their activities to the club environment.
Please remember:
Non-Members attending a club activity day or competition from 1 Oct 2011 – 31 Dec 2011 are not afforded coverage for their own liabilities under the EA Insurance Programme and it is highly recommended that this is brought to their attention prior to engagement in any club related activities. Non Members must sign the Dangerous Activity Acknowledgment form which is to be kept by your club/Association and payment for each non-member sent to the EA National Office. It is recommended Day Members become EA Members with their state branch to access the benefits and cover provided by the National Insurance Programme.
Each EA State Branch has different polices in relation to Day Membership. Clubs should contact their local state branch for details.
If permitted in your state, your club will be able to let non-members participate in club-organised horse activities. Such participants need to sign a Day Member Release and Waiver of Liability form which is to be kept with your club and the club will have to remit the applicable state fee per member to the EA National Office with the remittance form.
Non-Member Waiver
A Day Member is a person who wishes to participate in a club horse activity and who is not a member of the organising club or a direct Member of the EA. Day member participants in Club-organised horse activity days are, upon completion of this form, deemed to be members of the Club during such activities for the purposes of participation only. This is a notice to all clubs that as of the 1 January 2011 Queensland and WA no longer offers Day Membership. This membership at times has caused some confusion as to the level of coverage it provided and despite some belief to the contrary the current system only ever covered liability insurance for the club, not personal accident insurance for riders taking out the membership for the day.
From 2011, in order to allow riders that are not a member of the respective club or of EQ to compete in club based activities, we would encourage clubs to offer a modified membership option within their club membership structure that not only brings the rider into the club for the purposes of the activity they wish to participate in, but at the same time will also ensure riders are covered under the Clubs Liability Insurance for any activity the Club may conduct.
Clubs may place any limitations on this level membership as they so chose, but the benefit of this approach is it will bring individuals into the club structure and at the same time provide protection for the club for the riders that fall under this category, rather than relying on some external process that did not assist clubs develop membership what so ever.
This decision has been made by EQ in conjunction with EA’s long term vision for a much more rationalised approach to the sports membership structure, along with the desire to have individuals participate at the club level of the sport to a greater degree than has previously been the case.If you have any questions of queries please don’t hesitate to contact Equestrian QLD on 07 3891 6611.Thank you.
