Board Announcement: Results of the first Discipline Committee Review; Show Horse

On 1 April 2020, the ESA Board announced a Discipline Committee Review as part of recommendations from the 2019 Independent Governance Review.

The Review Terms of Reference were also released, with a call for submissions from members past and present.

In May, the Review Working Group commenced discussions with the Show Horse Discipline Committee Chair, and other members of the Show Horse community.

Membership past and present have been given a voice through this review process and they have spoken. The Review Working Group has taken their voices into account in our final recommendations.

On Wednesday 3 June 2020, the Review Working Group presented a final report and recommendations to the ESA Board. In accordance with the ESA Constitution, the final report included asking the current Show Horse Committee to step down.

ESA would like to thank the Show Horse Discipline Committee for their commitment and contribution to the sport.

As with all governance reform, change is difficult and we understand that the committee will be disappointed with the decisions made. However, it is with the membership’s best interests that these recommendations have been put forward, and we will continue to strive for inclusivity and democracy across the Equestrian SA Association.

A final summary report will be published at the conclusion of all discispline committee reviews.
