Brett Davey Appointed as EA High Performance Dressage Manager

Equestrian Australia (EA) High Performance (HP) is pleased to announce that Brett Davey has been appointed as the EA High Performance Dressage Manager.

The newly created role has been designed to provide the discipline of dressage with a dedicated resource responsible for jointly leading all aspects of the HP Dressage Program, including the preparation and performance of the team at the World Equestrian Games 2022.

The recruitment process was a close collaboration between HP and the selection panel to ensure that the vision, direction and objectives for dressage in Australia, and the role of the EA High Performance Dressage Manager, remain aligned.

Chair of the Equestrian Australia Dressage Committee (EADC), Prue Spurrett said, “The EADC is delighted to announce this new role within the High Performance Dressage Program. With an eye to the future, we need to be proactive in our rider programs and pathways along with delivering support to our established High Performance athletes. We believe Brett will be a valuable asset to the team and look forward to working with him and High Performance in creating a framework for future success in the international arena.”

Brett’s appointment will see him utilise his expansive equestrian management skills and his experience as an equestrian athlete to support Australian riders throughout the HP Pathway.

Brett has been involved in the equestrian industry for 20 years and has been competing at FEI level dressage since the age of 14, completing his first Grand Prix test at just 16 years of age. He also spent three years as a rider in Germany, where he trained under prominent coaches such as Jonny Hilberath, (German national dressage coach) before returning to Australia to utilise his Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science and Business to start his own company.

Throughout his impressive career thus far Brett has garnered extensive knowledge and experience in the high performance equestrian space, and has a clear insight of what it takes for athletes to be competitive on the international stage.

Furthermore, as a member of the Australian Young Rider Dressage Teams in New Zealand, Australia and America, as well as being a past winner of the Individual Trans-Tasman competition, Pacific Challenge and prestigious Aachen Challenge, Brett has a first hand understanding of the focus, dedication, and commitment required for athletes to represent Australia in the dressage arena.

“It is an exciting time for Australian dressage and I feel honoured to be involved in this new role. I look forward to working with the dressage riders and also developing some Pathways Programs for emerging combinations. It will be great to be able to give back to a sport and industry that has provided me with so many opportunities,” says Brett of his appointment.

EA High Performance welcomes Brett to the team and we look forward to working with him on the advancement of Australian dressage.
