ESA Board Voting EA SGM 19th November 2025
Following the Equestrian Australia Special General meeting ESA received an enquiry as to how ESA voted at the meeting, the response is below.
The ESA board resolved on 12 November 2025, to vote in support of the members when using their veto vote.
At no time did we intend to block the members' votes to pass any motion.
ESA’s vote was cast at the same time as the members’ votes.
This veto vote works in the following manner; if a motion is passed by 75% of the members, then there must be 5 State Branches also voting for the motion.
If the motion is not passed by the members’ votes, the States cannot pass it using their vote and therefore, a count is not necessary.
If a Branch does not vote or abstains, the vote is recorded as being against the motion (a ‘no’ vote).
The ESA Board intended to support the members' votes, and so voted in favour of all motions (a ‘yes’ vote) to ensure the members’ desire was supported.
We feel it was not necessary for Equestrian Australia to announce the State votes for motions 2, 3 and 5 because they had not been passed by the members.
There was no vote lodged for motion 4.
In relation to motion 5, our position was the same; we did not want our vote to block the wishes of the membership.
