Eventing Rider Rep Required

Eventing SA wishes to appoint a rider to the committee to act specifically as a Riders’ Representative.

This is a voluntary position and the successful applicant will be co-opted to the Eventing SA Committee unless they already hold a position on the Committee.
If there is more than one applicant, they will be voted in by the ESA members who are eventing competitors.

The Riders’ Representative must be an ESA member and be a current eventing rider.

Key responsibilities
The Riders’ Representative will act as a key link between eventing riders and the Eventing SA committee, providing an approachable point of contact for riders, and acting as a sounding board for the committee.

In particular they will:
• advocate on behalf of eventing riders to the Eventing SA committee
• gather the views of eventing riders on relevant issues under discussion by the Eventing SA committee or the Equestrian Australia Eventing Committee
• be an approachable point for riders to raise concerns about any aspect of eventing in South Australia (NB the Riders’ Rep will not be expected to provide solutions, but will advise of the correct process to resolve concerns, and bring them to the Eventing SA committee where appropriate)

Key knowledge, abilities and experience:
• Approachable – the appointee must be approachable by younger and/or less experienced athletes as well as more experienced competitors
• Able to maintain confidentiality
• Able to act impartially and ethically
• Able to keep riders informed of progress and outcomes
• Good literacy and communication skills
• Good working knowledge of the EA and FEI Eventing Rules, ESA Constitution, EA and ESA ByLaws, policies and procedures
• Good understanding of the complaints process via Sports Integrity Australia It is important to note that the role of the Riders’ Representative does not prevent any competitor from approaching officials, organising committees, the Eventing SA committee, ESA Executive Officer or the ESA Board directly
